![]() Years later, after Hiccup had made peace with the dragons and taught Berk the ways of dragon-riding, Cloudjumper and Valka would return to Berk. Instead, she chose to rescue dragons with her newfound friend - the massive Stormcutter that had taken her from home. Due to this conflicted beginning, Valka knew she could convince neither Berk nor Stoick that dragons were peaceful creatures. Their relationship had an inauspicious start: Cloudjumper kidnapped Valka from Berk during the Dragon Wars, after determining she meant no harm. Their bond runs so deep that the two can communicate without words - with an unspoken understanding that goes far beyond dragon and trainer, Cloudjumper and Valka are family. He has a set of hidden wings that show an X-formation when in use, making him the most maneuverable and precise dragon.Īfter two decades together, Valka and Cloudjumper share a relationship unrivaled by other Academy dragons and their trainers. Large in size and with heaps of confidence, Cloudjumper thinks of himself as the top dragon. Their unique relationship rivals even that of Toothless and Hiccup. These sharp, hooked pincers at the tips of Cloudjumper's wings are dexterous enough to gingerly pick the lock of a dragon trap - or strong enough to tear apart one of Drago's War machines!Ĭloudjumper and Valka instinctively understand each other in flight. While fearsome-looking at first glance, Cloudjumper's fore-talons can actually be quite nimble and delicate when the occasion calls for skill over savagery. When all four wings are deployed in an X-formation, there is no dragon in the sky more maneuverable and precise than Cloudjumper. Like all Stormcutters, Cloudjumper features a second set of hidden wings. Whereas other dragon riders need to call out commands to turn or shoot, Cloudjumper instinctively knows when Valka wants him to move or attack, adding to their combined mystic and prowess in battle. Cloudjumper's pride, confidence, and large size lead him to think of himself as the top dragon in Valka's Mountain fortress, second only to the Bewilderbeast, who is the king of all dragons in the nest.ĭue to their two decades of experiences together, Cloudjumper and Valka share a wordless shorthand when flying. The rest of the mask is craft foam layers and paint, built up from a paper model. Found a snap on motorcycle helmet face shield in smoke, and cut it down with a dremel cut-off wheel for the lens. The Mask was the key element, so we spent a fair amount of time on it.įrom sketch to finished. In the photo above, you can see the camo rope (line?) and how it looks when sandwiched between craft foam and yoga mat for the chest plate. I sandwiched lengths of rope cheap camp poly rope (as seen in the photo below) I had on hand between layers to make the raised sections. I cut the pieces from yoga mat and covered them with a layer of a large sheet of craft foam. I picked up a yoga mat for <$10 at Marshall's, and went to work. We started with some sketches on cover stock That sent him on lots of research on light saber hilts, mask, etc, while I went straight to the 501st for costume references since I'd never seen the character myself :eek. This year, I wanted him to help so he could start to learn how to make cool stuff (and while I am still way away from the awesome stuff I see on the RPF, I still need some help as the boys see what is possible [thanks, RPF members!:devil). The younger was Cloudjumper, Valka's dragon Last year for the eldest, it was Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon 2. Pretty much a first time poster, go easy on me.įor the past couple of years, I've given the kids a choice: Halloween costume, or Harry Potter Yule Ball (our Holiday Party) costume? I can't do both, so they have to pick.
